Surprise Guest (Not Anymore)

The Spring Festival Gala on CCTV is always an elaborate production
The must-see during Chinese New Year on the mainland is the Spring Festival Gala broadcast on China Central Television.

All kinds of politically-correct stars come out of the woodwork to entertain hundreds of millions of viewers, singing, dancing, doing martial arts and cracking jokes.

Canadian Da Shan or Mark Rowswell usually is the token white guy showing off his fluency in putonghua by performing xiangsheng or "crosstalk" comedy.

And now there will be another one.

Billionaire William Buffett will make an appearance albeit via video, showing off his musical talent.

Wang Pingjiu, one of the CCTV executives involved in the annual extravaganza said the Berkshire Hathaway chief executive would be a surprise addition to the show.

"Everyone knows Buffett is an investment god," Wang was quoted by the Beijing Times as saying. "Actually, he is not bad at singing as well. He specially recorded a video singing and playing guitar, and will be broadcast in the gala."

Buffett is best known for playing the ukulele and prefers country music.

It'll be interesting to find out the real reason behind his taking part in the show...
