Apple Daily has launched an English edition!

The popular paper in Hong Kong started by Jimmy Lai Chee-ying in 1995 is now available in English in the mobile app version:

 

The tagline is the clever: An Apple A Day Keeps The Fake News Away!

An introduction says:

"CCP voted to impose a national security law on Hong Kong. Their move would erode human rights, freedom and autonomy in the city. Working as a guardian and protector of civil society, Apple Daily diligently holds the Hong Kong and Beijing governments accountable; uncovering political scandals and wrongdoings of people in power, exposing government ineptitude and oppression, and reporting the truth to its readers."

So far initial comments are that it's difficult for people outside Hong Kong to download, and the stories are roughly translated from Chinese to English and therefore need a bit of work to finesse them to be as racy as the Chinese edition.

Nevertheless, for many non-Chinese readers, it's an insight into what's going on in those colourful broadsheet pages.
