Another gorgeous evening from the Star Ferry pier

Last night I took the Star Ferry home from Tsim Sha Tsui and noticed a sign inside the vessel.

This sign caught my eye boarding the Star Ferry

It said:”Green Star Ferry. You have boarded the first low-emission Green Ferry running daily service in Hong Kong, equipped with diesel-electric propulsion system.”

Indeed! Gone were the big puffs of black smoke from the chimney, and hearing the motor lumbering along, like a tired work horse.

Instead Morning Star was quiet and smooth, and environmentally friendly!

Morning Star was retrofitted with the diesel-electric propulsion system and relaunched back into service in July 2020. 

Great to see another green initiative in HK

The diesel powered generators supply electricity to drive through propulsion engine. There are two smaller generators that power the lighting and ventilation.

Hope more of the Star Ferries will switch to this system to be more sustainable in the long run.
