Chris Tang is now a JP

The government has appointed Tang as a Justice of the Peace

 

Secretary for Security and former police chief Chris Tang Ping-keung can now add Justice of the Peace to his name card.

He and 29 others were appointed, including former Chief Secretary, Matthew Cheung Kin-cheung, though he is a Non-official Justice of the Peace.

Cheung is a Non-official Justice of the Peace

According to the government, the main function of Justices of the Peace is to visit correctional institutions, detention centres or other institutions to ensure their effective management and that no individual is unfairly treated or deprived of his or her rights.

The Justices of the Peace will ensure that complaints lodged by individuals are handled in a fair and transparent manner, the government said.
