Canada Added to Hong Kong's High Risk List

HK-born public health officer Tam asks people to stay home

It was getting harder for Canada to effectively control the coronavirus pandemic despite urgent (and polite) pleas from health officials to minimize socializing these last few months.

On Thursday Canada reported over 7,000 new confirmed cases, with a total of 488,000 cases.

As a result the Hong Kong government has now put Canada on the list of high-risk coronavirus cases after observing the ever-increasing number of cases.

Passengers take Covid tests on arrival at airport
Starting from Christmas Day, passengers returning to Hong Kong from Canada must take a Covid-19 test within 72 hours of boarding their flight. They must also have a hotel booking at a designated quarantine hotel for 14 days.

Passengers who fail to comply or provide inaccurate or misleading information can face up to six months in jail and a HK$10,000 fine.

Currently passengers from 19 countries are already subjected to these rules. They are: Bangladesh, Belgium, Ecuador, Ethiopia, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Romania, Russia, South Africa, Turkey, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and the United States.
