Giant red cat for Louis Vuitton -- will he bring good luck?

Tonight I went to Galaxy Macau for a dinner and as I rushed to the restaurant I saw this big red maneki-neko, or in Japanese "beckoning cat" and had to stop for a second and check him out.

Turns out he was part of a Louis Vuitton display with the "LV" initials on his chest. Apparently these maneki-neko are meant to bring good luck to the owner.

Perhaps Louis Vuitton needs a lot of luck after luxury sales fell down again thanks to the Chinese government cracking down on daigou, or people who shop overseas for customers who live in China, many of them used to buy fashion brands like LV...
