Luggage Gate with CY Leung Continues...

The saga over Leung Chung-yan (far right) and her left luggage continues
Hong Kong Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying's luggage-gate will not go away.

The Airport Authority issued a report Monday saying his wife Regina Leung Tong Ching-yee tried to take her daughter Chung-yan's luggage to the boarding gate but was refused entry (of course).

However, Leung denies she even tried to do that.

Today ahead of a weekly Executive Council meeting, he said there may have been some confusion at the time, which may have led to some having the impression that his wife wanted to deliver the luggage to her daughter directly.

The Airport Authority issued its report on Monday
"My wife had no boarding pass. So it's impossible for her to go to the boarding gate," Leung said. He explained that she only wanted to go to the pre-immigration clearance area.

The Airport Authority's report said Regina Leung "appeared upset" and asked why no one could deliver the luggage to her daughter.

"Then, Mrs Leung started to walk to L7 North Pre-Immigration stating that she would take the bag to the boarding gate herself," the report said.

"Avesco staff tried to stop Mrs Leung, but Mrs Leung kept walking to L7 North Pre-immigration," it continued.

The authority denied that the Leungs received any special privileges, as the bag was eventually delivered to Chung-yan just before she boarded her flight to San Francisco.

Leung added that, as per the report states, over 500 similar deliveries were made in the past year, so his daughter's case was not unusual.

Was it or wasn't it?

Chung-yan left her luggage somewhere around here...
We still can't understand how she could have left her luggage on the trolley at the Cathay Pacific check-in counter. Did she have a lot of luggage or is completely absent-minded? And wasn't her mother there to see her off? Didn't she notice her daughter didn't have all her things with her?

The only way to tell the actual sequence of events is to go back to the video surveillance recordings to see. But probably those were already wiped out...

The more Leung tries to deny his family got special treatment, the more the public finds it hard to believe... how will he dig himself out of this one?

More CY Leung Family Drama

Leung Chung-yan (middle) almost left her bag at Hong Kong airport
Hong Kong Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying and his family are back in the spotlight again after an Apple Daily report the other day about his daughter leaving her luggage in a non-restricted area but she was about to board her flight to San Francisco on Marcy 28.

What makes this interesting is the differing accounts of the story.

Apple Daily reported -- complete with a copy of Cathay Pacific's internal memo -- that Leung was in touch with the airline's staff demanding that they help his daughter retrieve the luggage -- even though this is against airport security rules.

When Cathay staff addressed him as "Mr Leung", he apparently demanded they call him "Chief Executive Leung"...

The bag was finally brought to the gate by a Cathay staff
But the document did not document the telephone conversations.

However, his office claims he only heard about the luggage issue when he called his daughter to wish her a good flight, as it was his wife Regina who saw their daughter off at the airport.

It was then that he called airline staff, but only to find out how the luggage would meet up with her if she left on her flight. The CE's office also stated Mrs Leung never went to airport restricted areas, or the boarding gate area, nor did she wear any "special identity".

He also claims he didn't abuse his power, nor ask anyone to call him "Chief Executive Leung".

Another version of the story has come out that it was Mrs Leung who insisted that airport staff take the luggage, which was left in the immigration area and bring it to her daughter.

According to a Cathay log, Chung-yan was arguing with airport security Aviation Security Co (AVESCO) for more than 20 minutes.

"Leung [Chung-yan] asked us many times to claim her bag on her behalf from AVESCO," the log said.

Apparently Chung-yan left her bag at immigration
"She was aware time was running out [boarding had started] and she did not want to waste time going through immigration."

"At 00:05 on March 28, passenger's mother returned to the site and confirmed the bag belongs to her daughter," according to another entry.

"Mrs Leung said her daughter must board [the flight] with this bag."

While AVESCO staff tried to explain to Mrs Leung that the owner of the bag must personally retrieve it, the chief executive's wife apparently insisted on having things her way.

Then at 12.15am, a Cathay staff retrieved the bag with permission of AVESCO and by 12.23am, Chung-yan received it and immediately boarded the flight.

Which version do you believe?

The story is making the rounds on social media and already the court of public opinion has weighed in.

Wouldn't it be best if the facts were clarified as quickly as possible?

CY Leung's Halloween Fright

Troubled privileged girl Leung Chai-yan in her Halloween costume
Hong Kong Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying has more problems on his hands and it's not the city that has the issues -- it's his daughter.

Leung Chai-yan has been a periodic thorn in his side and this time she lashed out at her mother, Regina Tong Ching-yee.

For Halloween, the 24-year-old was dressed up as a ghoulish figure in a white robe, with a white face save for dark makeup around the eyes and streaks on her cheeks to make it look as if mascara was running down her face. Her red lips were artfully painted with a few red streaks too.

Regina Tong cradling her face after her daughter slapped her
However, when it was time to leave the Lan Kwai Fong area, which was choc full of party goers, Tong tried to help her daughter get into a taxi and Leung slapped her face twice, pushing her out of the taxi too.

In the video footage, Tong was seen cradling her cheek in shock.

"You know this mum is not my actual biological mother," Leung said to the small crowd who had gathered at the scene around 3am Sunday morning. "Mum, just go. Just go."

The young woman then ushered a young man into the vehicle and helped cover his face, leaving her mother behind.

Today Tong tried to brush off the altercation, claiming her daughter was "tipsy" at the time and had no intention of offending anyone.

Moments before Leung slapped her mother twice in the taxi
She also claimed the media, some 50 reporters surrounded Leung and her friends.

"What Chai-yan wanted to do was to protect her friends and not let them be pictured by the media," Tong said. "Chai-yan is a kind-hearted girl. She is keen to protect her friends. I believe she had no intention of offending anyone with her behaviour that evening."

Then what about her comment saying Tong wasn't her biological mother?

She had no comment, but instead pleaded with the media to give her daughter more space.

Right...

Sounds like Tong is desperate to spin the story, but pictures and videos don't lie.

Obviously Leung has some serious issues, the first of which is slapping her mother -- as well as denouncing her -- in public.

She has become a desperate and frightening side show for CY Leung's administration, who is constantly put in crisis management mode whenever his daughter does something public.

Perhaps yet another reason Leung should not seek a second term? Who knows what his daughter will do next?!

More Drama with Leung Chai-yan

The soap opera at Leung Chun-ying's home continues with Chai-yan
We interrupt our regular programming to bring some bizarre news from Hong Kong's Government House.

Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying's daughter Chai-yan was in the news today after she she wrote some Facebook status messages suggesting she was being physically harmed by her parents.

At 7am this morning she wrote:

And then within the same hour she also wrote: "I'd rather be living on benefits sleeping on a couch eating cup of noodles everyday than living the life I'm living now," and "I honestly wouldn't give a single fuck if my parents died right now this minute."

Then she added a "life event" on her Facebook wall, declaring her departure from home "forever".

She later posted "off to hospital" as paramedics arrived at Government House after receiving a call at 10.50am. A spokeswoman for emergency services said that at 11.45am the ambulance left because no one needed hospital treatment.

According to her, she did call the ambulance, but wasn't allowed to leave the residence.

What is going on?

Did Regina Leung Tong Ching-yi assault her daughter? If so, were there any injuries?

What precipitated this incident?

Too many questions and hardly any answers.

This afternoon all Leung Chun-ying would say was that his daughter needed space, denied his wife had hit Chai-yan, and that she was barred from leaving the house.

He said his daughter had been suffering "health problems" and had emotional problems since she began her studies in the UK.

"As a daughter of a public officer, she has been facing tremendous pressure in life," Leung said. "Meanwhile there are many public functions at Government House and therefore she could not have a quiet environment to recover."

He added that no one suffered any injuries, and as for her being apparently barred from leaving the home, Leung said: "You can use common sense to judge, how can anyone possibly imprison a person in Government House."

Leung's domestic issues are even more dramatic than the political ones. Chai-yan's presence in Hong Kong has made covering her father even more interesting these days and keeping their handlers working in overdrive...

The Sales Pitch

A giant boat load of orchid plants for only HK$13,888
It's that time of year again -- the Lunar New Year flower market at Victoria Park. The madness began yesterday and I decided to check it out tonight with a friend.

Poking fun at the police banners used during the protests
While we entered from the Causeway Bay entrance, we didn't take the conventional route of going from the far left row to the other end, and instead headed to the middle in a bid to avoid massive crowds at the beginning.

We saw the usual stuffed toys, from sheep and Hello Kittys, to emojis and even pillows shaped like giant lollipops. There were a few Umbrella Movement-themed stalls, one with voice balloons that said: "You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one" quoting John Lennon, and yellow umbrella-shaped  balloons.

One stall had a yellow banner that read: "Merchant warning: You are in Lunar New Year Fair. You may be approached", and the people manning the stall were selling water bottles that looked like tear gas canisters.

Check out Regina Leung and her tank!
The Democratic Party didn't have a large supply of Hong Kong Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying-themed toilet paper and tissues on hand, but instead had face towels with his caricature on it looking wolf-like. They also had a cardboard tank with lobster claws on it and Leung's wife Regina in her military-like outfit as commander-in-chief of the Hong Kong Army Cadets. She even has a Hitler-like moustache...

And while there were lots of stalls selling flowers, mostly orchids, there was one selling potted cabbage -- sang choi which has the same meaning as prosperity. So maybe it would be good to grow one of these at home -- have fresh salad and hopefully the money will be rolling in too?

However we got sucked into one stall when we saw the guy handing out free stuff -- was it really free? First it was cloths for household cleaning, and then these plastic hooks that can hold up to 4kg of stuff. My friend and I got those hooks and were hoping to get our hands on those cloths.

But wait! There's more! The sales guy whipped out a chopping knife and showed us how sharp it was and told us each of us could have one -- and if you did, raise your hand! Of course we did.

Lots of cabbage for those wanting a richer Year of the Sheep!
He was very chatty and kept making us repeat the company name, that these products would be available from March 15, and that we were not allowed to sell these, but to try for ourselves and tell our friends about it. Would we do that? Yes! Who wants to try them? We do!

But that's not all! There's also a shaver that you add shaving cream to and it doesn't make a mess, and you can even clean it by dunking it in a container of water! And even the wire for charging it can be put in the water too even if it's plugged in! Very crazy.

By this time, my right foot went numb from standing there listening to him go on and on and telling us he would give us all these things, and at the same time teasing and cajoling us, making us repeat his words over and over. Was he going to give us the stuff or not?

Only 12 people would be able to get all these things -- including a cutting board too -- but wait -- it's not free. Would you pay HK$1 for it? How about HK$10? HK$100?

Some yellow umbrella balloons hanging around
In the end it turned out people had to pay HK$500 for the whole lot and there were many takers -- even a few who had already whipped out the money because they had been told the total value of all the items was under HK$2,000.

We had stood around for almost an hour... and left empty handed. But boy was he a good talker.

By this point we were exhausted and so we didn't finish the rest of the stalls and instead headed to the flower stalls so that I could buy my consolation prize of a pot of orchids...
